When you visit the holy land The Mount of the Beatitudes is sure to be a highlight of the trip. Situated nearĀ  the Sea of Galilee and the hometown of Peter, well at least we know his mother-in law lived there, Capernaum , and it is the place where many believe Jesus shared the Sermon on the Mount with his disciples.

According to our friends at Wikipedia the history of the Church on this siteĀ  goes something like this:

Located on a small hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee, and built on the traditional site of Jesus’ delivery of the Sermon on the Mount, which contains a rock-cut cistern beneath it and the remains of a small monastery to its southeast. Part of the original mosaic floor has also been recovered and is now on display in Capernaum. Both Popes Paul VI and John Paul II celebrated Mass at the church during their pastoral visits to the Holy Land. pilgrims are known to have commemorated this site since at least the 4th century.

While searching the world of YouTube I found Mark Murphy, who has been kind enough to post a short video of his visit to the Mount of the Beatitudes and the Church of the Primacy of Peter.

I have been blessed to be to both these locations and I trust this short tour will give you idea of the place where our story this weekend unfolds.
