Sister Barbara Reid, OP, is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She holds a PhD in Biblical Studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and is professor of New Testament and vice president and academic dean at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. She has authored a number of books and has written a three part volume called Parables for Preachers.

Parables for Preachers is a resource for anyone that wants to gain insight into the teachings of Jesus. Sr. Reid offers up an eminently readable synopsis of each of the parables and she provides insight into the context of these important teachings of Christ.

Below is a brief excerpt from the first volume, which details the parables in Mathew’s gospel,that helps us to understand how the parable of the Labourers and the Vineyard might apply to our parishes today:
