I stumbled across Rev. Mark Roberts a few years ago when I was working on a version of the Stations of the Cross from the perspective of Dismas the Good Thief. He was gracious enough, along with his wife Linda, to allow us to use Linda’s paintings of the biblical stations for this work.

Here is a link to a reflection Rev. Roberts has written on the “Final Seven Words of Christ”. You will no doubt  notice there are more than seven words as it is actually the final sentences of Christ.

This weekend we read one of these scenes from Luke’s gospel. It is the exchange between Dismas and Jesus captured beautifully in Linda’s painting.

Stations-11-remember-7The Second Word:
“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
(Luke 23:43)

I also want to talk about two others this weekend:

Stations-10-forgive-7The First Word:
“Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.”
(Luke 23:34)

and

Stations-12-mother-7The Third Word:
“Dear woman, here is your son.”
(John 19:26)
