Tomorrow is Good Friday. Station 13- Jesus Dies on the Cross is the singular focus for this day. Below is a from movie the Passion of the Christ. It deals with the suffering of both our Lord and his mother. Take a moment to watch it and reflect on the question of suffering. Why in the world we we Christians think that this day should be remembered as “Good” Friday when there seemed to only be pain, loss and sorrow?

At the foot of the cross in John’s GospelĀ  we are told, “When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”

In this moment Mary becomes our mother and Jesus our brother. Mary’s role then is to care for us when we fall and to always point us to our brother, her son, Jesus.
