I have had the good luck lately  of returning to the writings of one of my mentors- Dr. Stephen Covey.

I first ‘met’ Dr. Covey when I purchased his book called the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People 25 years ago when it is originally¬† published. I have been using the concepts taught by Covey in my personal life, in my professional endeavors¬† and now in my role as a deacon.

Below is a video of Dr. Covey talking about the foundational role of principles. At the 2-minute mark is a story about a “Dark and Stormy” night that illustrates the difference between a social value and a principle.

Reflecting on this week’s gospel story it seems to me the apostles are concerned about the social value of prestige and power as they argue among themselves, but they have ignored one of the primary principles of Christian discipleship- HUMILITY.
