(Please click here for this week’s Homily: Do Not be Afraid)

As we enter the final week of our preparation for Christmas there is an opportunity to pray with Mary. A powerful way to ponder the meaning of Christmas in our hearts is to spend a few minutes each day with the rosary. The Joyful Mysteries help us to journey with Mary from the time of the Annunciation through to the finding of Jesus in the temple.

The reflections below are all about 8 minutes long. They include the reading of the appropriate scripture text on which the Mystery is based which is read interspersed with the praying of a decade of the Rosary. (Click here for direction on praying the rosary.) In this post I have included all 5 of the Joyful Mysteries for those who might like to spend the time and complete and entire rosary. Each day this week I will post a different mystery and the related scripture text as a guide.

One way to use this final week before Christmas is to carve out 10 minutes of your day for one of these mysteries. Gabriel tells Mary, tells each of us to Be Not Afraid . One decade of the rosary each a day followed by a time of quiet reflection is a way we can prepare the way for our Lord.

These videos were prepared by a group called Connecticut Tamil Catholics.  For our Tamil community at St. Patrick’s and elsewhere I encourage you to click here to visit their website  for additional videos in the Tamil language. I would like to thank them for their work on this version of the “Scriptural” Rosary.
