Mary of Magdala

One of the best Catholic websites on the planet has to be the American Catholic and the related sites of American Catholic Radio. It is rich in all sorts of content and presented in a variety of formats.

One feature they offer is called- Saint of the Day where in about two minutes they share the history and impact of a particular holy person.

Tonight at the Easter Vigil we will read about St. Mary of Magdala who may well be  named the “Patron Saint of the Slandered”. She is often confused with the sinful woman who anoints the feet of Jesus in Luke’s gospel .

American Catholic confirms that:

Most Scripture scholars today point out that there is no scriptural basis for confusing the two women. Mary Magdalene, that is, “of Magdala,” was the one from whom Christ cast out “seven demons” (Luke 8:2)—an indication, at the worst, of extreme demonic possession or, possibly, severe illness.
