Below is my yearly re-post of what is clearly one of my Top 10 movies of all time.

I often feel like the richest man in the world.

It’s a Wonderful Life

One of my all time favorite movies, especially around Christmas time, is Frank Capra’s gem- It’s a Wonderful Life staring,  Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.If you love old movies then this is likely in your collection but if black & white films are not your style then you may never have invested the time to watch what goes on in the sleepy town of Bedford Falls on the night before Christmas in 1946. (Click here for the movie trailer.)

George Bailey is our hero. Life always seems to get in the way of George actually living his dreams. We meet George on a cold and snowy Christmas Eve when he is at the  lowest point of his life. It looks like all his sacrifices will go for nothing as a mistake his absent minded Uncle Billy has made (losing $8,000 from the family Savings and Loan)  has George looking at some serious jail time.

He finds himself on a bridge, alone and contemplating suicide. George thinks he is worth more dead (thanks to an insurance policy) than he is alive.

Then he meets Clarence– his bumbling guardian angel who offers George  a chance to see his world as if he had never been born. George thinks his “angel” friend is a crackpot but Clarence has the last laugh. He decides to turn George’s world upside down. It turns out that Bedford Falls is not the same place without George Baily.

Here are two clips. Both involve Zuzu’s petals, an important anchor for George as he goes through his nightmare only to realize he actually has a Wonderful life.

(Sorry about the pop up ads- Just click ‘X’ to turn them off as they are an annoying part of life on YouTube.)
