Is Samuel correct?

“He who begins by loving Christianity more than Truth, will proceed by loving his sect or church better than Christianity, and end in loving himself better than all.”

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Christianity is a religion established by human beings who are not perfect. The Church was established by human beings as well in order to organize Christianity. The Truth comes directly from God and is God as Jesus said, “I am…the Truth”. The Church (any denomination) can make mistakes because, in our imperfection, we misunderstand what God is telling us. Once we love the Church more than we love God, we put ourselves first because we are not listening to God and human pride enters the picture. As thinking Christians, we have a responsibility to challenge the Church to remain true to the Truth. We need to recognize that God comes first always, not only in our own personal lives, but in the life of the Church.
