“I Love Reality”

There is an excellent interview with Jean Vanier conducted by Krista Tippett called “The Wisdom of Tenderness” .

During their discussion Vanier tells the host that he has come to love reality. When I heard Vanier talking about this point it made so much sense to me and I have quoted it often. Vanier shares that with age he has learned to live his life not wishing for the way things could have been or to waste time hoping about what might be in the future.

Instead he offers that his life has taught him to embrace the present moment- he shares the simple phrase with us – “I Love Reality.”

Erkhart Tolle has made a fortune on his book the Power of Now, an Oprah favorite, but you can save yourself the $20 on this book and get a  lesson in life by spending an hour listening to Jean Vanier talk with real wisdom about living tenderly in the present moment.

A few other quotes on the subject:

“Life is divided into three terms – that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present to live better in the future.”-William Wordsworth

“Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality.” Nikos Kazantzakis

“Reality is merely an illusion, although a very persistent one”-Albert Einstein

“Reality isn’t the way you wish things to be, nor the way they appear to be, but the way they actually are.”-Robert J. Ringer

“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.”-Soren Kierkegaard
