In the gospel story for this week a young man of good character rushes up to Jesus to proudly proclaim all he had done in the name of God. I can imagine a smile appearing on the face of thisĀ  young person as he waits for a pat on the back. Instead we are told that:

Jesus, looked at him, loved him and said to him,
“You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
At that statement his face fell,
and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

The following video tells the story of St. Francis of Assisi & the Leper. This is a clip from about the early life of St. Francis.

Take a moment and see how Francis overcomes his fear of the man with leprosy and by doing so his life is transformed.

The question I need to ask myself is how often do I turn my back on Christ and miss the opportunity to serve Him. May our Lord forgive me and help me to be more aware of His presence.
